Generative Topic

I am no longer an education major, so technically, I have to common core. 

Here is what I am going to do about that...
 I am going to take doctrine from the Brethren about womanhood and motherhood
and consider that my common core. I will plan a lesson for Relief Society that will
take my philosophy and combine it with the "common core."

Topic:
Marriage, Womanhood and Motherhood

To create relevance:
The Sunday before have women anonymously write down questions that concern them about womanhood or motherhood.

The preparation:
Take those questions and find articles that will help shed light on some of those questions from a doctrinal standpoint.

I will post to my ward’s Facebook page and post the various questions that we are going to address and have the sisters all come with some insight to help the other sisters in relief society learn. Not only will there be a lot of great insight, but there will be a spirit throughout the room because the sisters are coming ready to learn.

Execution in class:
This class will be in a very Socratic seminar style. I will pass out paper with all of the questions and a space for them to write and open up a question for discussion. This way, I think that the class can be led by the spirit in a way that is different than having a strict lesson.

My Metaphor

For my metaphor, I chose a jewel. The reason that I chose this is because of all of the different facets that the jewel has. This reminds me that in teaching there are so many aspects to our philosophies and not only that, but there are so many different personalities that exist in a classroom. As teachers, we need to have our solid philosophy, but it is important that we are able to work with the different students that come our way because the doctrine (and tenant) is: It is about them! If we, as teachers are able to work with the different children in the way that best suits them, then we can help combat the language of oppression as talked about by Freire.
